The knife was designed by JDR and manufactured by the Japanese knife maker Yoshisada Knives. This forge has a history spanning more than 360 years.

The blade of this reed knife has a sharper angle than a standard knife and is ideal for for final finish of reeds. The blade also has a slight curvature. This is a characteristic feature of the blade and occurs during the manufacturing process. It is not a defect. The sheath and case are made of elm wood.

The knife is available for both left- and right-handed users.
