An ingenious circular blade action gouges the cane to nearly finished quality then just about five strokes with your gouging machine and you are ready to roll...
This pregouging machine will prolong the life of your gouging machine by reducing wear on your blades.
We recommend, in principle, to age only pre-gouged cane in order to reduce the risk of worm damage.
Would you recommend the 12 or 12.5 mm pregouging machine for english horn reeds?
It is always possible to put a smaller diameter in a bigger diameter bed, but not vice versa. For example: We suggest to take the 12.5 mm machine for 12 - 12.5 mm tube cane. It is the same for our gouging machines.
What is the minimum thickness for a finished piece of pre gouged cane?
We recommend a thickness of the pregouged cane not less than the following:
Oboe: 0.75 mm
Oboe d'amore and Viennese Oboe: 0.85 mm
English Horn and Baroque Oboe: 0.95 mm
Technically it is possible to go thinner but there is a risk that crooked pieces of cane will not have perfect results.
