The Complete Package
Achieving consistent cane thickness is essential for reliable reed making. The R'S oboe gouging machine offers the precision and flexibility to help you achieve repeatable results and tailor your cane preparation to your individual needs. With interchangeable blade styles, it adapts to your preferred gouging approach, giving you greater control and confidence in your reed-making process.
Interchangeable
With the turn of a screw you can change blade heads, allowing you to switch between our two styles of blade very easily.
Cylindrical
Our patented cylindrical blade allows you to easily rotate the blade to a new position that is still sharp. Pre-drilled holes make positioning a breeze, so you can continue gouging without interruptions. Using the exchange sets you can easily swap between blade sizes.
Passin
The beloved Passin-style blades are now compatible with the R'S base, allowing for uncompromising adjustability and precision. Every blade size has it's own interchangeable head, so your machine is always ready to go.
Adaptive
You can choose from a wide variety of bed and blade sizes to gouge to the diameter of your choice, making the one machine for Oboe, Oboe d’amore, English horn and Baroque Oboes.
Secure
The transport bag features a foam interior for safe transport and a snug fit. The tools to use the machine can be stored in the zipper closed compartment on top of the case. The handle gives portability wherever you need it.
A “change of clothes” for your cane
During the rainy season, reeds often get overly hard and out of control.
And in cold, dry winter air, they can close down excessively.
Changing the thickness of the gouge doesn't help much;
we recommend changing the relationship between the center and the sides.
A small replacement kit for our gouging machines can do just this,
helping you react to changing seasonal and weather conditions.
For the rainy season, we recommend gouging the sides somewhat thinner.
The standard with a REEDS 'N STUFF gouging machine
with a 10.5-mm bed is an 11.41-mm blade unit.
With the small replacement kit, you can exchange it for an 11.6-mm blade unit.
In the winter, we recommend thicker sides relative to the center.
With the small replacement kit, you can switch to an 11.3-mm blade unit
(on a machine with the standard 10.5-mm bed),
effectively converting your gouger to meet seasonal conditions.
You can perform these adjustments yourself in a few easy steps.
BuyThe W gouge is a typical American thing, they off-center the blade to make one side thinner, then flip the cane over and make the other side thinner too. Theis creates a little spine in the middle which is similar to the middle of the letter W.
