The quality of the cane used plays a major role in the success of the instrument. Consistent results offer security for the many different tasks involved in making music. With our hardness-tested cane, we offer you an objective way of selecting the quality of the cane.
What do the measured values indicate about the hardness?
The hardness tester measures cane hardness by pressing a pin into the cane with a constant force when the lever is moved from the right to the left side of the tester. Moving the lever releases the mechanism that drives the pin, and the dial measures how far the pin penetrates the cane. Lower readings indicate a harder cane, while higher readings indicate a softer cane because the pin penetrates further.
