Sebastian Werr studierte Musikwissenschaften an der TU Berlin und der Universität Mailand; er promovierte an der Universität Bayreuth, wo er sich 2008 habilitierte. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen neben der Geschichte der Holzblasinstrumente vor allem auf dem Musiktheater vom 17. bis zum 21. Jahrhundert und der Sozialgeschichte der Musik.
