Max Schmiedel

Max Schmiedel started his training as a cutting mechanic, specializing in milling, at Reeds 'n Stuff back in 2016. He is now an important part of our Team and takes care of a variety of tasks. Among other things, he is responsible for the 3D printer and the laser, but he can also often be found in assembly and production.  Max is furthermore placing orders with our suppliers and ensures that the stock is well filled.

How long have you been working at RNS?
I started working at Reeds 'n Stuff in September 2016, and absolved with my 3.5-year training as a cutting mechanic, specializing in milling. After that, I signed my permanent work contract in January 2020 here at the company.
At first I didn't know exactly in which area I wanted to do my training, but after a friend recommended it, I originally decided to train as a toolmaker.
I then became aware of this company and applied. The very next day, Mr. Heng invited me to an interview. And the next day I signed my training contract. However, not as a tool mechanic, but as a cutting mechanic. I did another 3 weeks of internship during the summer vacations in 2016 to get familiar with the company.

How did your work here change after you completed your training?
During the training, the work was sometimes a bit monotonous. I also learned a lot in the training workshop.
When I was told after my training that I would be taking over the laser, 3D printer and winding machine in the future, I was skeptical at first. But when I began to get to know this field, I started to really enjoy it. It's varied and I always learn something new in the area of laser and 3D printing.
I am happy to be a permanent member of the team at Reeds 'n Stuff. I get along great with all my colleagues and it's a very familiar atmosphere. Of course, like everywhere else, there are also some days when it's difficult, but that's rarely the case.

What does your typical working day look like? What do you particularly like about your work?
I start working early in the morning, at 6:00 am. First I check my e-mail inbox and then decide how to proceed. I don't have a typical workday, every day brings different tasks. Whether it's in production or at the laser, 3D printer or in the merchandise management system.
I particularly like how varied my work is. Sure, there are days when it's rather monotonous, but most of the time it's the exact opposite.

Do you play an instrument yourself? What do you like to do in your free time?
I myself do not play an instrument, unfortunately. But I was thinking about learning drums or guitar. In my free time I try to do sports 3 times a week. Otherwise I like to spend time on the computer or meet with friends.

What are you looking forward to most in the near future?
That Ican finally pursue all activities again as it was the case before Corona. To meet again with everyone you want to see and spend evenings with friends. Just doing what you feel like without having to check the rules first.
