Quiet. Quick. Easy
Our patented Octafree quietly and quickly removes disruptive water from the two octave vents.
The Octafree is inserted into the top of the oboe. From here the water can now be silently sucked out while the instrument remains assembled.
The Octafree is ideal in particularly critical situations, e.g. live broadcasts, radio recordings, or a colleague's solo – wherever extraneous sounds would be disruptive.
Thanks to the durable silicone seal, water can be removed directly from the octave valves. This way the pads stay dry, and the moisture is absorbed by the filter.
The Octafree is only suitable for use with modern oboes.
Can I also use it to blow the water out of the octave valves?Sucking the moisture out of the instrument and into the filters is the recommended usage, as this will prevent the moisture from reaching the pads.
Can the Octafree be used without a filter?Yes, this is possible, but not recommended.
Will the Octafree stop water from collecting in the octave vents? The Octafree is designed to remove water from the octave vents. An added side effect of the silicone seal is that when it is pulled out, it wipes the bore clean. This helps reduce the risk of water paths forming to the octave vents.
