Figure Octafree
Using the Octafree
Note: Please make sure to insert the Octafree straight into the instrument. This will prevent damage to the silicone seal. The Octafree should always be inserted completely into the oboe before being pulled out again. Never force the Octafree to reverse beforehand. This can lead to a defect in the seal, or at least it will increase wear and shorten the lifespan of the Octafree.
The Octafree is intended for use in a played instrument. The condensation in the bore allows the Octafree to be inserted and removed smoothly.
Function of the Octafree
The Octafree works by forming a seal inside the bore below the two octave vents. With this seal created, opening the octave vents and inhaling will allow the airflow to force any moisture gathered inside the octave vents through the Octafree. Filters inside the Octafree catch this moisture and prevent it from both being inhaled and from dripping back into the instrument.
Exchanging the Filters
Take the old filter out of the Octafree and replace it with a new filter. Once this has been done, close and tighten the topper again before using the Octafree.
Replacement filters can be ordered here.
Cleaning the Octafree
To clean the Octafree, rinse with lukewarm water and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use cleaners, dishwashing liquids, etc. that contain solvents.
Transporting the Octafree
The Octafree should be stored in the case provided. If this is not possible, protect the silicone seal from mechanical stress during transport and storage.
