Alejandro González

Alejandro González Álvarez is a Spanish oboist who has studied in Zaragoza, Utrecht and Amsterdam. His curiosity has led him to play a wide variety of double-reed instruments from oboe, to English horn, to historical instruments, as well as traditional instruments.

After finishing his studies, he combined his passion for teaching with his career as a freelance oboist. He ist now following this same passion and curiousity to help oboists all over the world find their own reed voice.

What was your first impression of your new workplace?
Having used Reeds ‘n Stuff machines for so many years, I was excited when I finally saw the place where everything happens. Like every oboist, I was amazed when I got to see the factory for the first time, and seeing all the machines beautifully organized in shelves waiting to be shipped. On top of this, I was positively surprised by the working environment. I greatly enjoy working at a place where everyone is so supportive and willing to help, which is extra welcomed when you are the new guy.

What does your typical working day look like?
Our "typical working days" are actually quite diverse. My duties can go from helping clients online or receiving them in our installations, to contacting and talking to our dealers. What I enjoy the most is getting together with my coworkers to talk about ideas that could be applied to upcoming products.

What has it been like to come to the Erzgebirge?
As a student, I was always attracted to the idea of moving to Germany but, unfortunately, I never had the chance. Thus, when the opportunity to join the Reeds ‘n Stuff team came along, I didn't have to think about it twice. Of course, it has been quite a challenge: new country, different traditions… besides, I don't feel very confident speaking German yet. Thankfully, everyone here is very friendly and they try to help me with everything they can, which makes it much easier for me to adapt. In addition to this, I love how calm the environment is. Here everything is within a walking distance: shops, work, leisure... It is a big contrast with the stressful life of a big city like Madrid, where I come from.

What are you looking forward to most in the near future?
I'm excited to show people how our machines can make their “reed making life” a little easier. Working as a teacher I discovered how rewarding it is to help other oboe players achieve their goals. Because of it, I am looking forward to meeting our customers in person to exchange impressions with them, and talking with oboists from all over the world, not only about our products, but about everything related with the reed making process.
