Same Position, Every Time
Precise positioning is essential when profiling both sides of a reed. The Mandrel Stopper provides a fixed reference point on the mandrel, allowing you to place the reed in exactly the same position after turning it over.
This is particularly useful for American scrape reeds, where the scrape is often defined with measurements from the end of the staple rather than from the tip of the reed.
The Mandrel Stopper allows the reed to be positioned according to the desired distance from the base of the staple to the plateau. This can leave a relatively long tip extending beyond the reference lines on the tongue of the profiling machine.
With the Mandrel Stopper, you simply set the position once and use the stop as a reference when turning the reed over. This ensures that both sides are profiled from exactly the same position without tedious measuring.
For European scrape reeds, the reference lines on the profiling machine already provide a good guide. However, the Mandrel Stopper offers an additional level of precision, making it easier to achieve consistent positioning from one side to the other.
