Das Schilfrohr singt by Alain Girard is a richly illustrated guide to making oboe reeds. Step by step, the book introduces the fundamentals of reed making and clearly explains how a piece of cane is transformed into a playable oboe reed. Numerous photographs and illustrations demonstrate the individual steps and provide additional insights into the material, from the different stages of cane growth to its processing.
The book is trilingual in German, English, and French and is suitable both for beginners in oboe reed making and for experienced oboists who want to deepen their knowledge.
A timeless classic for anyone who makes their own oboe reeds and wants to better understand the relationship between material, craftsmanship, and sound.
