Never a Dull Blade

The R'S Prints blade sharpening jig makes sharpening your profiling blades easy. Place the blade into the jig, run it over your sharpening stone, and voila - like new.

Set up is simple:
place a piece of paper underneath the wheels, then place the blade so that it is touching the sharpening stone. Tighten the screw and the angle is all set.

Remove the piece of paper then run the jig over the stone several times until you see an even reflective surface on the bottom of the blade. This indicates that the blade has been properly sharpened.

Take the blade off the jig and place the flat side on the sharpening stone. After 3-5 to passes to remove the burr, and the blade is ready to go.

Your Barrel – Your Choice

Create your very own profiling machine for bassoon.

By choosing the barrel that best suits your needs, you can define the profile of your profiled cane.
You can choose between an eccentric or concentric profile.
The eccentric barrel for bassoon has a change in thickness from the center to the outside edge of the barrel of about 0.30 mm, whereas the concentric barrel maintains a constant thickness from center to edge.

In addition to our standard barrels there are three other variants, each with a more defined spine in the middle of the blade.

Spine + is 0.26 mm thicker at the spine
Spine ++ is 0.48 mm thicker at the spine
Spine +++ is 0.55 mm thicker at the spine

- The length stop integrated into the barrel makes it even easier to position the cane.
  The position of the length stop is variable so that you can adjust it to different cane lengths.
- For profiles with a more pronounced spine, there are special barrels with beveled pins.
  You can choose between three variants in addition to our standard one to get your favorite result.
- You can create a complete exchange set for your barrel. The clamp rings and the rotating handle are not included in the scope of delivery of the single barrel.
  You can get the clamp rings as well as the rotating handle separately as accessories.
  Please note that the clamp rings for bassoon and contrabassoon have different sizes.

Change it up

Secure your Cane

The cane near the center of the barrel is at risk for tearing. This is due to the fact that the most amount of cane is removed in this portion of the piece of cane as well as slight variations in cane radii. In order to help prevent this we have developed, together with Prof. Hermann, a printed cane clip.

- This clip attaches to the barrel
  in addition to the clamp rings,
  and holds the cane in place
  while the profiler is in use.
- When one side one of the cane has been profiled, the clip can be moved to hold that side in place while the opposite side is profiled.
  This ensures that the cane is held against the barrel to prevent lifting and tearing.

Your choice

You have the choice between our standard blade made of HSS
and the carbide blade.

Both variants have their advantages.
Blades made of HSS (High Speed Steel) achieve a higher sharpness
and are easy to resharpen.

Carbide blades have an extremely long lasting sharpness.
Sharpening them is more difficult and requires a diamond stone
because the material is extremely hard.
