The Tip of Your Choice

Choose among tips S (Standard for bassoon and the mini dial indicator), F, and D to see the point you are measuring from every perspective and to measure exactly at a given point. Choose the ball-pointed tip K for a smooth glide when you pull the cane or reed through, as well as to measure gouged cane.

Swap it out

The new angled base for the Hardness Tester is angled backward for a more ergonomic and comfortable experience.

Looking to upgrade your Hardness Tester with the angled base?

Doing so is as easy as 1-2-3.

1 – loosen and remove the screws on the underside of your Hardness Tester
2 – remove the flat base and replace it with the angled base
3 – insert and tighten the screws from the underside of the angled base

Remember to also reattach the Arbour of your Hardness Tester to the angled base, and then you are ready to continue hardness testing in style and comfort.

Note: this item only includes the base and not the entire Hardness Tester.

„Understanding the Oboe Reed“ by Graham Salter has become a key literature in the oboe world.
In chapter 14 Salter analyses numerous reeds of famous oboists. To determine their measurements Graham uses a specific tongue on the dial indicator. The marks on this tongue are 1,8mm apart from each other. Today most producers do not use these measurements anymore. Mostly the marks distance is in mulitples of 1 mm(E.g. 2 or 3mm).
Here we offer a new edition of this Tongue for you. You can easily compare your own measurements to those mentioned in Salters book.
The exchange of the tongue of Reeds’n Stuff dial indicators can easily be done by you.

Here you can purchase a different arbor for the Hardness Tester, thereby converting it between an Oboe or Bassoon or Clarinet or Bagpipe Hardness Tester, without purchasing an entire different unit.
A and B are for Clarinet and Saxophone. With type A you will measure at the vamp, whereas type B is for measuring at the flat inside of the reed.
