Can the bassoon cane guillotine be adjusted for contra bassoon or vice versa?
The bassoon cane guillotine can not be adjusted for contra bassoon or vice versa. We could add a longer rod; however, this would not solve the radius problem, as the cane for contra bassoon reeds can be up to 32 mm in diameter. For contra bassoon we use a blade with a larger diameter, as well as a supporting piece with a larger diameter. Thus, it is necessary to have a separate guillotine for each instrument.
